Why we have guidelines

KolBo works when people feel safe to watch, create and connect. These guidelines describe what isn't allowed. They apply to all content — videos, Clips, live streams, thumbnails, titles, descriptions, comments, posts, playlists, Moments, links and chat — and to everyone, whether you're a creator, a viewer or an advertiser.

We consider context. Content that would otherwise break a rule may be allowed when it has a clear educational, documentary, scientific or artistic purpose — and that purpose is evident in the content itself, not only in its description. Some of this content may be age-restricted.

Spam and deceptive practices

  • Repetitive, untargeted or unwanted content, including mass-posted comments and links.
  • Misleading metadata or thumbnails — titles, tags or images that misrepresent what the content is about.
  • Scams: promises of money, prizes or giveaways designed to trick people; pyramid schemes.
  • Fake engagement: buying, selling or trading views, likes, comments or subscribers, or using tools to inflate them.
  • Impersonating another person, channel or organization, including copying their name, picture or layout.

Sensitive content

  • Child safety — content that sexualizes minors or endangers their emotional or physical wellbeing is never allowed and is reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • Nudity and sexual content — explicit content meant to be sexually gratifying is not allowed. Some nudity in educational, documentary or artistic content may be age-restricted.
  • Suicide and self-harm — content that encourages or glorifies self-harm is not allowed. We show crisis resources alongside content about these topics.
  • Vulgar language — excessive profanity may be age-restricted or have reduced visibility.

Violent or dangerous content

  • Harassment and cyberbullying — content that threatens individuals, targets them with prolonged insults, reveals private information (doxxing), or encourages others to harass them.
  • Hate speech — content that promotes violence or hatred against people based on attributes such as race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, caste, sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Violent extremism — content that praises, promotes or supports violent extremist or criminal organizations.
  • Graphic violence — shocking or gratuitous violence meant to disturb viewers.
  • Harmful or dangerous acts — challenges, pranks or instructions that risk serious injury, or that facilitate serious harm, such as making weapons or hard drugs.

Regulated goods

Content that sells or facilitates the sale of firearms, explosives, controlled drugs, counterfeit documents, stolen credentials or other illegal goods and services is not allowed. Links to such goods in descriptions, comments or chat are treated the same way.

Misinformation

We remove content that has been technically manipulated to mislead in ways that could cause serious harm, content that interferes with elections or democratic processes (for example, telling people the wrong voting date), and false health claims that contradict established health authority guidance and could cause real-world harm.

Creators must disclose realistic altered or synthetic content — such as AI-generated footage of real people or events — using the altered content setting when uploading.

Comments, live chat and community

Everything above applies to comments and live chat too. Creators can hold comments for review, block words, hide users from their channel and appoint moderators. Viewers can report messages and hide users whose comments they don’t want to see.

How we enforce these guidelines

We use a combination of reports from our community, automated detection and review by trained people.

  1. First violation — usually a warning, with the content removed and a policy training the creator can take.
  2. Strikes — further violations lead to a strike, which temporarily limits features like uploading, live streaming and posting. Strikes expire after 90 days.
  3. Termination — three strikes within 90 days, a single case of severe abuse, or a channel dedicated to violating our policies leads to the channel being removed.

Some content is age-restricted instead of removed. Age-restricted videos are not shown to viewers who are signed out, under 18, or using Restricted Mode, and they are not eligible for most ads.

Appeals

If you think we made a mistake, you can appeal a removal, strike or age restriction from KolBo Studio. A different reviewer looks at every appeal, and we tell you the outcome.

Reporting content

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, report it using the Report option on the video, comment, post, chat message or channel. Reports are anonymous. Track what you reported in Report history. Learn more in Report inappropriate content.

For copyright issues, use the copyright removal form instead.
