Copyright basics and takedown requests
What copyright protects, fair use, and how to ask us to remove content that uses your work.
Last updated Sep 3, 2026
Copyright protects original works such as videos, music, images and writing. In most cases, you need the owner’s permission to use their work in your content — giving credit or saying “no copyright intended” isn’t enough.
Some uses may be allowed without permission under exceptions like fair use (for commentary, criticism, research, teaching or news reporting). Whether an exception applies depends on the specific situation.
If someone uses your work
Submit a removal request through our copyright form. We’ll review it and, if it’s complete and valid, remove the content and notify the uploader. Learn more on How copyright works.
If your video was removed
You can contact the claimant and ask them to retract, or submit a counter notification if you believe the removal was a mistake or your use is permitted.
